A veteran of 30 years professional experience, Angel's life and career has led him on a journey that has included Panama, Puerto Rico, Germany, California, Philadelphia and New York before settling on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Along the way he has gigged and had the pleasure to meet many top industry professionals, and is equally at home playing all types of music. Currently gigging with Margot's Angel with his wife Margot, he is also Operations Manager and Jazz DJ at WESM 91.3 FM, a 50,000 watt non-commercial radio station at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore campus. Angel is the master of his monster 6-string fretless bass, providing a warm, full low end. His playing is brilliantly improvisational, yet always supportive.
Angel cites Jack Bruce, Tim Bogart, Alphonso Johnson, Jaco, Charlie Haden among his many influences, as well as many of the bass players from Africa.
Angel's gear includes: his main instrument "Mama Roux", an early model Alembic six-string fretless bass, an old original Groove Tube pre-amp and a Carver power amp pushing air through a SWR 4x10 Goliath speaker cabinet.
